About the Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a comprehensive, international, voluntary product standard that sets third-party certification criteria for recycled content, chain of custody, social responsibility, environmental practices, and chemical restrictions.

The main objectives of the GRS are to encourage the integration of recycled materials into products and to minimize or eliminate adverse impacts in their manufacturing processes.

The purpose of the Recycled Content Standard (RCS) is to promote the use of recycled materials by establishing a voluntary, third-party certification global standard for recycled input materials and chain of custody.

Service Content

As global sustainable development and low-carbon economy continue to advance, the rational use of recycled resources has been increasingly focused on by more brand buyers and consumers. The reuse of materials helps to reduce dependence on non-renewable resources, reduce waste emissions, and the environmental load brought by waste treatment, which is conducive to the sustainable development of society.

¡ñ GRS Certification

GRS is designed for products that use at least 20% recycled materials, and every stage of production must be certified, from the beginning of the recycling phase to the terminal supplier in commercial transactions.

Material collectors and storage facilities must undergo self-declaration, document collection, and on-site field inspections.

¡ñ RCS Certification

RCS is applicable to any product containing at least 5% recycled material.

The scope of RCS starts from the recycling phase and extends to suppliers throughout the final B2B commercial transactions.

Material collectors and centralized storage facilities are required to undergo self-declaration, document collection, and on-site field inspections.

Although RCS and GRS have similarities, GRS has higher standards in terms of minimum content percentage requirements (20%) and additional process requirements (such as social responsibility, environmental protection, and chemical requirements).

Global Recycled Standard certification does not automatically include RCS certification. Nevertheless, you can include RCS within your existing certification scope, typically without the need for additional audits, as the GRS requirements cover those of RCS. The recommended approach is for factories to apply for both GRS and RCS certifications simultaneously.

¡ñ Issuing Transaction Certificates (TC)

NG28 Testing & Certification, as an authorized GRS and RCS certification body by the Textile Exchange, provides SC certification to clients to demonstrate the company's capability to manufacture products that meet specific standards.

A TC (Transaction Certificate) must be provided with each transfer of ownership of goods, ensuring that the information on the TC certificate is consistent with the invoice and shipping documents. NG28 Testing & Certification can issue Transaction Certificates (TC) for your products to confirm that a batch of products contains the declared materials.
